Tips & Tricks for Using Corn Starch
Household Tips
1) Carpet Cleaner/Deodorizer
Sprinkle Corn Starch on Carpet and vacuum off
2) Remove Oil Stains from Marble
Oil stains like hand
lotion, butter, and other oil based stain, can often be successfully
removed
with a beginning base of corn starch. Corn starch is absorbent
and can often help to dry the oil.
Leaving the corn starch on for about
24 hours, brushing it off, reapplying for a shorter time and
then
creating a solution of detergent gives the base of the oil stain a
serious run for its money.
Scrubbing with a stiff brush and wiping dry
should reveal a stain-less marble top surface.
3) Window Cleaning
You can clean your windows using a half gallon of warm water and 1 cup of corn starch. Simply
wipe it on and then dry it off with a clean cloth and your windows will shine!
4) Make your own Spray Starch
A cheap, easy-to-prepare shirt starch. Use 1 tablespoon of corn starch to make up a light starch,
and up to 3 tablespoons for a stiffer finish. To make 16 fl. oz.:
Mix the corn starch and water in a 1 pint misting bottle that allows for a fine mist. To use the
spray starch, shake well, spray the area to be stiffened, and then iron immediately.
Store out of reach of children.
5) Talcum Powder
Put 2 cups of corn starch in a plastic bag, add a few drops of your favorite fragrance oil or
perfume. Mix and then place in a talcum powder box. Use a powder puff to apply. This is safer to
use then regular talc and much cheaper too!
6) Blood Stains on Carpet
If you get blood on your carpet, try this as soon as possible while the blood is still wet. Sprinkle
corn starch over the area, as the corn starch absorbs the blood, just brush it off with a broom and
reapply as needed.
7) Plain Baby Powder
Just that simple - use instead of baby powder. J & J's baby powder with talc is listed in the "Dirty
Dozen" of cancer causing personal care items on the market!
